SUMMARY CONCLUSION:
The word BEGINNING seems to be a reference to Christ Himself. God created the heavens and the earth IN THE BEGINNING (IN CHRIST). This should indicate that creation itself is a reference to the Church; the Body of Christ. In tribulation IT became unclean pointing back to an incomplete creation when it was first formed. It was in darkness and then God called for the separation of light from darkness.
