Marry or Burn

A look at 1Co 7:9 - How does Marriage and Burning relate to the Church under judgment?

BURNING: THE CHURCH IN TRIBULATION?

1Co 7:9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to BURN <4448>.

Eph 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the FIERY <4448> darts of the wicked.

Re 3:18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold TRIED <4448> in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

BURNING: GOD’S JUDGMENT ON BABYLON?

1Co 7:9 But if they <cannot contain>, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to BURN <4448>.

2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on FIRE <4448> shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Re 1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they BURNED <4448> in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

Mal 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall BURN as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall BURN THEM UP, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on FIRE <4448> shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

La 4:11 The LORD hath accomplished his fury; he hath poured out his fierce anger, and hath kindled a FIRE IN ZION, and it hath devoured the foundations thereof.

CANNOT CONTAIN: UNFAITHFULNESS OF THE CHURCH IN TRIBULATION?

1Co 7:9 But if they CONTAIN CONTAIN <1467> (self control), let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

1Co 9:25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is TEMPERATE <1467> in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.

Tit 1:8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, TEMPERATE <1468>;

Tit 2:2 That the aged men be sober, grave, TEMPERATE, SOUND IN FAITH, in charity, in patience.

1Ti 3:4 One that RULETH well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

1Ti 3:2 A bishop then must be BLAMELESS, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

TO MARRY: REDEMPTION OF THE BODY?

1Co 7:9 But if they CONTAIN CONTAIN <1467>, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to BURN.

1Co 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid FORNICATION, let every man have his OWN WIFE, and let every woman have her OWN HUSBAND.

Heb 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed UNDEFILED: but whoremongers and ADULTERERS God will judge.

1Ti 5:14 I will therefore that the younger women MARRY, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to SPEAK REPROACHFULLY.

1Co 7:39 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be DEAD, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.

1Ti 5:9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of ONE MAN,

MARRY: THE CHURCH TAKING STRANGE WIVES INSTEAD OF CHRIST?

1Ti 5:10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

1Ti 5:11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will MARRY;

1Ti 5:12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.

Re 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

Ne 13:27 Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in MARRYING strange wives?

Eze 16:32 But as a wife that committeth adultery, which TAKETH STRANGERS instead of her husband!

1Co 7:34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things OF THE LORD, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please HER HUSBAND.

Isa 54:1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the MARRIED WIFE, saith the LORD.

SUMMARY CONCLUSION

The Bible appears to be relating the option to marry instead of burning to the redemption of the Body. NOT being able to contain seems to point to the unfaithfulness of the Church in tribulation. Burning is all about God’s judgment on the Body. As the believers come out of Babylon, they marry Christ as opposed to facing the wrath of God.
