SUMMARY CONCLUSION:
The Bible appears to be equating those who pray in secret or behind closed doors with the elect who call on the name of the Lord in tribulation. Behind closed doors seems to be where men engage in wicked works. Coming into tribulation is the beginning of sorrows or chastening for the believers. God seems to speak of the door being shut there too (partial darkness). Salvation although scarce would have still been possible until the revelation of Christ to judge and bring total darkness.
