Living OF the Gospel
Living OF the Gospel: Being an example of the Gospel Christians preach?
LIVING OF THE GOSPEL: WALKING THE TALK, PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH?
1Co 9:14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live <2198> OF the gospel <2098>.
Ga 2:14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel <2098>, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest <2198> after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
Jas 1:23 For if any be a HEARER of the word, and NOT a DOER, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
Jas 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath FAITH, and have NOT WORKS? can faith save him?
Jas 2:17 Even so FAITH, if it hath NOT WORKS, is dead, being alone.
Jas 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so FAITH WITHOUT WORKS (work of Christ) is dead also.
Mt 7:26 And every one that HEARETH these sayings of mine, and DOETH THEM NOT, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
Ga 6:6 Let him that is TAUGHT in the word COMMUNICATE unto him that teacheth in all good things.
Ro 2:22 Thou that sayest a man SHOULD NOT commit adultery, dost THOU COMMIT adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?
Ro 14:10 But why dost THOU JUDGE thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
Lu 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and DO NOT the things which I say?
1Ti 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou AN EXAMPLE of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
LIVING OF THE GOSPEL / WORKING AND EATING: PARTAKING OF THE TRUE GOSPEL?
2Th 3:12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they WORK, and EAT their own bread.
2Th 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would NOT WORK, neither should he EAT.
Isa 65:22 They shall not BUILD, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another EAT: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.
Ps 141:4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not EAT of their dainties.
Lu 10:7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the LABOURER is worthy of his HIRE (reward / Christ). Go not from house to house.
1Co 9:18 What is my reward then? Verily that, when I PREACH the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel.
1Ti 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who LABOUR in the word and doctrine.
NOT LIVING OF THE GOSPEL: HYPOCRITES?
Mt 15:7 Ye HYPOCRITES, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
Mt 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me WITH THEIR MOUTH, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Lu 11:44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, HYPOCRITES! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them.
Mt 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the HYPOCRITES are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mt 24:51 And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the HYPOCRITES: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
SUMMARY CONCLUSION
It was once thought that 1Co 9:14 is speaking of preachers being allowed to get paid for sharing the Gospel. However, a closer look seems to reveal that Living OF of the Gospel is focusing more on being an example of what we preach. In other words we should walk the talk and be a living example of the Gospel. It would also mean that those who call on the NAME of Christ should not be Hypocrites.
